Between her intact memories and her principal father, Nix only has her family and the miniature android she’s been rebuilding from scrap parts. When a rare Adroit ship arrives with two unscheduled students, Nix helps one hide away a mysterious ring before her memories are taken. Nix must balance the new arrival’s secret and her own desire for friendship against her family’s safety.

Matters turn grave when pirates raid the academy, stealing away with Nix’s father, students to Blank Slate and sell into galactic slavery. Nix’s only hope is that her smuggler brother’s ship is fast enough to catch up and save her father and friends before all the secrets come crashing down.
